Minnesota is one of the BEST states for solar PV (solar energy panels). Minnesota has plenty of sunny days (an overall sun rating of 4.6 kWh/m2/day), but more importantly cold weather actually improves solar energy panel efficiency. Solar PV systems are designed for peak voltage output of the panels, and at 40 degrees below zero there is about a 20% increase in panel efficiency. The colder it is the better PV works! Also, when you install a PV roof-mounted system the sun's energy is absorbed before hitting your roof which reduces your attic temperature in the summer.
